How we check deals
Every deal posted to OpenDeals goes through the same automatic checks, usually within minutes. Nobody (not moderators, not retailers, not us) can buy a better verdict.
1. Price history
We compare the posted price against up to 12 months of price history for the same product. That's what powers the badge you see everywhere:
- “Lowest price in 12 months”: it genuinely is. Buy with confidence.
- “Was cheaper in {month}”: decent, but we've seen better. Your call.
- “Price unproven”: we don't hold enough history to judge. Honest answer.
- “Checking…”: the checks haven't finished. We never pre-badge.
2. Seller record
We look at how long the seller has been trading and whether the community has flagged them before. A deal from a two-week-old marketplace storefront reads very differently from one at a high-street retailer, and the verification card says so.
3. Live link check
Links are re-checked on a rolling basis. When a deal dies, we mark it expired and say so. We don't leave you clicking through to a dead basket, and we keep the price history up because it's useful the next time the offer comes round.
What we don't do
- No paid placement, no “sponsored” verdicts, no quiet edits. Moderation is publicly logged.
- Affiliate links never affect the verdict or the ranking.
